Personally she sounds great & I keep looking covetously at Ford Mustangs at the moment & it gets around the stupid VED rules as well!
Welshlads sis sounds like the long lost one of SWMBO, is she slightly Greek by any chance?
tr7, i've come over all unnecessary at your post....
Being totally bowled over by the new dodge charger whats this you say about mustangs not being affected by the new ved rip off? Please tell me my wishful thinking is true, then tell me the charger doesn't have direct injection and i'm going to float....

Unfortunately GB, I think the reason for the exception is that tr7 is referring to a classic Mustang.
That new Charger does look lovely though doesn't it? But maybe the classic one looks even better?

Or a 'proper' or 'real' Mustang as I would call it. And I don't mean any narrow-tyred six-cylinder carp either. On the other hand it doesn't have to be a floor-change Shelby Mustang to be any good. There were lesser models that had some muscle.

BB i'm completely enthralled by the new model, not the stickered and sporty looking ones, but the standard saloon really has my taste buds going.
Not terribly struck on the interior, but no worse than the new mustang, which incidentally i test drove, and though it went well, wasn't as quick as i'd expected and the ride was terrible.
Having had a mach 1 mustang 5.7 of 72 vintage i think i'll steer clear of the older ones.
Enjoyable though it was for sheer brute power, the ride and braking and general lack of handling made it very much a straight line machine only.
I thought for am moment then that tr7 had discovered some loophole with personal imports where the emissions didn't count or something.
It will have to wait for 2 years anyway...
And Luds quite right, a proper US car has to have a V8.

Nope currently ALL imported vehicles are exempt from CO2 based taxation, so just based on capacity, this will change shortly as they'll all be Group M. This means big USA pickups, V8 mustangs etc all rated the same as my 87 Porsche 944 2.5 Whoo hoo....
We have Newport Imports near me that do New shape mustangs for Jag money Umm..

Let me get this right tr7, if i was to completely flip me lid, and get a 06 or 07 charger.
It would be classed the same as my 96 MB and cost approx £210 to tax?
Does that change in 09 or 2010 to your knowledge?
I feel a holiday to sunny Cali coming on, fly drive with a difference.

Yes correct, imports aren't measured for CO2 as it's only done on a full vehicle type approval, so they are just rated on capacity, yes it does change I believe in 09 when they'll all get the max rate irrespective of capacity which will see new little hatches hit very hard.
But for the time being fill your boots! My Jag goes from £210 to £300 or 43% so the attraction is a Mustang. Spoke to one of our guys the other day about using a LHD car as a daily driver & he reckoned it's not too much of an issue. He has a Merc Cab.

Oh bother.
Thats definately put it back 2 years now.
I've had 2 LHD US motors, once you get used to them its fine, i never had any bother and would do so again. Parts were eye wateringly cheap, and made me realise 20 years ago just how bad rip off Britain really is (2 rear dampers on Chevy camaro £32)
It makes you reasses your overtaking on 2 way roads as you learn to hang back further and take advantage of looking up the inside on slight left curves (which no one seems capable of any more), and its a far better way of overtaking with any car.
The only time i found it disconcerting is when you are travelling on narrow winding roads, as you come round a left hander you get very little warning of any obstacle because of the angle of the bend, pedestrian for example, but then you get a better view on right handers.
I had a mirror fitted to the inside of the screen on the offside facing forwards, it gave a good view with a little fine adjustment around a vehicle in front.
A van door mirror is good for this purpose.
I don't blame you wanting a mustang, very handsome looking motor, ride too hard for old me though.;)
Have a good look underneath any though, as i found no paint on the rear axle or suspension parts, so would be a good chassis wash and heavy waxoyle prospect.

Why would anyone buy such a vehicle? Is she such a bad driver she needs to force traffic into the ditch? Perhaps its just a "decoration" of intent, as with large white elephants AKA caravans.

Had 'she'been a 'he' I would have come up with the obvious answer.
There is a local loudmouth little *fluffy dice!* who drives a bright yellow H1 Hummer. he must be all of 5'2", balding etc. But he has $$$$.
Small man syndrome at its worst.
Can't equate money with class, some folk ....

Parking it in the average supermarket car park must be interesting.

It's obvious, use the loading bay :)
If it's what she likes, why not.
My sister has a soft spot for BMW Z4s. She doesn't like driving, much, and uses it for a commute, urban, of about 5 miles each way. She is on her 2nd, a 2,5 litre thing. The first did about 15k miles in 3 years. BIL gives them an Italian tune up occaisionally, when he isn't useing the Ducatti 1098R for fun.
We live in a freeish country, choice is still allowed no matter how illogical or wrong it may seem to others.

May not be as mad as you think. There was one of these (or very like it) taking kids to their 'Prom' at several nearby schools - booked by the male half of the couples I surmise, considering how one would get into one in an evening dress! A Dad we know asked if it was worth his while and the owner replied it paid for several months running costs in the summer, then again for the Christmas Ball at the local 6th form college.
