99 1.6 OBD version ECU in an XTB - ghj08
I have a Peugeot XTB 1.6 1999 modell .
Does anybody know which OBD version the ECU is using for this model? (OBDII or earlier..) The plug is J1962 , but a OBDII/EOBD reader I tried ,could not communicate with the ECU , so maybe the french has got their own protocols for pre 2000 modells, does anybody know ?

Very likely to be manufacturer protocol on that year. It won't be OBD-II.

There would be at least six different manufacturers making ECUs for a 1.6 '99; which one is yours?

I think it's a Bosh MP7.3 management system or a Magneti Marelli MM1AP according to Haynes service and repair manual.

What it should be - and what it actually is, are commonly very different on French cars...

Only an eyeball test; or plugging in a scanner with ECU identification powers will tell you for sure.
