Hello !
I have just bought a Nissan Almera, and want to change the rather poor Radio, however unlike other cars it seems to be built into the dashboard, ie, there is a flange on the dashboard which seems to make it impossible to remove the old unit.
Does anyone out there know how to whip the old one out, - does it mean having to dismantle the whole dashboard or what ?
Hope someone can help !!
Cheers

Hmmm Using the words 'flange' and 'whip the old one out' you're not gonna get far Gareth....LOL
I would suggest pop into your local (friendly) Nissan dealer and ask them politely - perhaps apprehend one of the technicians as he walks out at dinner time perhaps?

Well perhaps my choice of words was unfortunate, however it is a serious question, and I was hoping that someone out there might have undertaken this type of task before.
Should have bought a Ford capri instead......

*BUT* it's *STILL* a Nissan so regardless of how many rags are stuffed up how ever many greyhounds barking starfishes u can find - u will *still* look like Grandad Stayprest.
Sorry.

B*LL*CKS !!!!
You're thinking of your mummy's micra 1.0 (0%finance) that she lends you periodically and you tell her you're going to the shops but really you go and do wheelspins in a local car park in a vain attempt to pull some underage tart...........

No. You should have bought a Maxima/QX as they not only go like the clappers, are cheap to buy, don't break down....but have a superb sound system as standard.

I thought that it just involved removing four screws on the front of the fascia.
I think two are above the stereo and two are above the pointless cubby hole.
Then give it a good tug (the bottom should come first, followed by the air vents at the top). Not too hard or you will take wiring with you.
hope this helps

OH if only somebody had told me that before !! unless you want to look like Grandad who buys all his stayprest trousers at Matalan, you dont want a Nissan Maxima, mine is a GTI almera, which REALLY goes like a greyhound with a burning rag stuffed up it's ar*e

I don't know the Almera, but I had a similar problem with a Citroen ZX. I removed the radio, complete with large panel and found that the main structure of the dash then contained a standard slot. I fitted a standard size Sony RDS radio and made up a trim panel to fill the gap. Looked OK too.
I suggest you "whip out" the standard Nissan wireless and have a look. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Similar thing goes with the Pug 306 - remove plastic trim, remove
existing radio to reveal a standard "DIN" radio opening.
Buy yourself a trim adaptor (possibly available from Peugeot, or maybe
an aftermarket spare) and the job's a good one.
