I've been away for a while (as you may have noticed) but back now and Cor!!! hasn't the price of fuel gone up. Phew...
Anyway, needed to the fill the Trajet and SWMBO said, lets try the small station around the corner that has a biodiesel pump. I was reluctant as its usually got a @soory, pump not in use' collar around the nozzle, but this afternoon - Hooray - not only was there biodiesel to buy, but it was 104.9ppl, a saving of a at least 16ppl over local Shell stations; there are no others except Tesco which is not competitive.
So saved about £5 on a fill up. A pleasant end to a nice day in the Lakes.

There is biodiesel and biodiesel ! The main brands contain a maximum of 5% bio added to their crude oil diesel. Some smaller fuel outlets sell fuel that is not as tightly regulated and newer diesel engines don't like the stuff. What car do you have ?

How to save on diesel, well, find a big diesel off-roader locally with lots of ground clearance and get yourself under it with a drill and a big fuel can. Cheapest way I know to top up these days.
By the way, I run a petrol-engined car so don't report me or anything.

Could do the same with a petrol off-roader, problem would be finding one though!..... ;)

Buy yourself an old IDI diesel such as a an XUD engined PSA car, and collect used chip oil from hotels, pubs etc. Leave to stand for a month, draw off the good stuff from the top, filter through old pillow case a couple of times and put in car. Some time taken, but pretty much free!

This is full bio-diesel with warnings on the pump about no liability if the engine is not compatible with bio-diesel (refer to handbook etc). We used it in the car (Hyundai Trajet) a few years ago with no ill-effects and would use it more often if the garage had it in stock more often.

Apart from any possible risk to my common rail engine, there is not an outlet in the county of Surrey!
As far as I can see, the nearest site is Thatcham in Berkshire. Unless of course there are sites that are not listed on the website.

You have to be careful filling your car up with 100% biodiesel. It's not something you should do without a bit of research first. Don't think of biodiesel as a straight equivalent to diesel because it's different. Biodiesel can bring all the muck up for one thing and it's advised to change your fuel filter after a few hundred miles after using 100% biodiesel for the first time.

I shall bear that in mind.
