I had a leak on my air con. A garage re gassed it and used some die. Within a week the air con stopped working so i used halfords seak and seal air con kit. Its some new refrigerant oil and a gas kit. Its worked fine up to now, But when i tried to use it yesterday it didnt work. I bought a can of gas and checked the pressure. It saya its ok on the gauge that is supplied. I later found the pump doesnt seem to be engaging when i hit the on button in the car. The fans are both working fine. Is there a fuse that starts the pump. Could the pully possibly be jammed??? Any help would be greatly appriciated.
O and would this old diesal run on bio diesal. Its quite a bit cheaper???
Cheers Rich

When you go to a proper A/C specialist to sort out the problem please tell them that you've put the silly glue/gunk in the system. He wont be pleased it is makes a mess of his kit.

If you say what engine that is you have a better chance of an answer. What power? AFN? PD?

adverse the silly glue as you put it has been in the system for 3 years and seems to work fine. As for the air con specialist used 1 in york and he tried to pull my pants down as lots of garages do. the reason for using this site is that it is usefull and apart frrom you has been constructive.

Adverse's suggestion was being constructive. Many an AC expert will tell you these diy cans are a nightmare for their systems. He was only trying to tell you that if and when you take it along to an AC specialist, mention that you've used one of these diy death kits otherwise he'll be passing his costs onto future customers for the clean up of his expensive AC equipment.

99 1.9 air conditioning - roscarbon

Hi all, just found this forum due to a prob i have which sounds similar.

I have just bought a VW Sharan 2003 130 Carat TDI. This car has had one owner from new and always serviced (every 10k miles) at the same garage. Service history is impeccable with 120k miles now on it and 2 cambelt changes since new.

It has manual aircondition which is not working. when i got the vehicle the AC light would not light up. I have been to my local mechanic who recharged the system properly. The AC light then came on when engine was started, but goes off after you turn blowers up. Strangely, the blower settings 1 and 2 do not do anything but 3 and 4 do. The AC light goes on then off as soon as you turn blowers on.

My mechanic plugged in the diagnostics and gave me the printout. It reads:

X431 Diag Report

Total Codes 003

Code001 - 01271 Motor for Temperature flap-v68

Code002 - 01189 Posit.motor for air distri. fromnt-v145

Code003 - 00926 Terminal 30

he only had half hour free so couldn't do any more (and i am broke anyway so suits me!) but he said the first thing to check is whether there are any blown fuses. I went through every single fuse in the box under steering wheel and none are blown. There are some missing but all cars seem to have a few missing depending on what gear is in the car.

Next I came to google and winded up here :)

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? VERY grateful if so, because with 4 children and myself all hating the heat, I would hate to resign myself to not having any aircon.

Thanks and great website!

You need to replace the heater blower fan speed resistor. It is located behind the glove box.Costs around £25 and takes approx 30 mins to fit.hth

Wow thanks so much for that Doc!

You sound like you know what you are talking about, but since I don't know you from Adam, can you just let me know if you are 100% certain or whether this is just something to try. Sorry to ask but my finances are in a right mess and I don't want to start guessing at things. If you are 99% or more sure then I will get looking for one of these resistor thingies and have a go. Is it something I could fit myself? I have a fair amount of tools, I am far from being a mechanic but reasonably capable of most things. Any ideas where I might get instructions or photos of such a procedure?

Thanks again, a million thank yous! (I was panicking it might be the evaporator!)

P.S. I forgot to mention one more symptom in case this helps diagnose. When you turn the ignition key on, just before engine starts you can hear a noise from inside dash (near windscreen). My machanic said it sounds like a fan direction 'flap' inside the blower system in the dash. Does this confirm your first thought doc?! thanks again very much
