Note: make/model/year not relevant but thought it would attract some attention.

What grease can I use which will not rot rubber/plastic? It is for a legitimate use!

I used to buy rubber grease from Halfords years ago for the Morris Minor brakes but they looked blank when I asked yesterday. All they could suggest was CV joint grease.

You can get red rubber grease on ebay, or try any grease that comes in a plastic tube, such as cera tec.

Silicone grease?

Not all rubbers and plastics are made from the same stuff ie. many different plastics and grades of rubber/neoprene.
Silicone grease is usually good for most of them.

Some greases may not always mention composition, but check small print which should mention if it is safe for plastic/rubber/neoprene.

Refresh my mind please. How did you use rubber grease '' for the Morris Minor brakes''

Having owned (in the distant past)about 10 MMs I cannot think why you would have used rubber grease.

In the old days we used "rubber grease" when inserting new seals into our dodgy brake cylinders.

I can remember doing a variety of slave cylinders and master cylinders (in the good old days when you could actually buy kits), but always used brake fluid as the lubricant when rerubbering. I would have thought there was potential for contamination problems, - but on second thoughts that is maybe why one kept on fitting new seals!

Does anyone still use that green grease for brakes? I have a tube that is well over 20 years old but I still put a tiny amount on the pivot points and metal to metal surfaces when I fit drum brake shoes. Is it worth my while?
