Hello...
Having a few issues with my Vectra C. Yesterday the dash light to say theres a bulb out came on. So therefore I replaced the brake light.
From just after replacing that another light has started to appear with a car & a spanner thru it. It is not staying on all the time, just coming on every now and again.
Anybody know of any faults or what it can be?
Thanks
Shouting amended in the subject line.

nicole [Did you used to have a Clio?]
That light is warning of an non-emission-related fault with the engine electronics.
This could be connected to the brake-light fault; are all the brake-lights working now?

Hi Screwloose. No never had a clio before. Yeah the lights are all working fine. Light still coming on every now & again

Then the only practical course of action is to get a garage to read the fault-codes and find out what the ECU is unhappy about.

Just an oblique thought; that was the correct bulb that you fitted? These can be very sensitive.
|
Do you mean brand or wattage ? BMW cars and bikes are very fussy and need OE replacements or it confuses the CANbus and consequently issue false alarms.

PU
Either are possible; I was also wondering if it's the single/double contact issue - it'd still work, but backfeeds might flag an implausible brake pedal position code.

Thanks for all your help! I'll get it checked out tomorrow. Think it might just be a problem with the light bulbs because my brother changed them and he's just as useless as me with cars lol. Thanks again!!

All the bulbs in the rear light clusters are 12 volt, 21 watt single filaments. Even the tail lights are 21 watt, but due to the CANBUS system they run at a reduced voltage so they can also then double up as brake lights.

So you don't think its an issue with the bulbs then??

Unlikely, but checking costs nowt, whereas a fault code check at the delaers is 60 quid plus. All bulbs should have a single contact on the bottom, like an ordinary household light bulb, make sure none have two contacts on the bottom, as commonly used in many car's brake / tail lights, but not the current Vectra. It does seem suspicious that this has started happening after the bulb change.

Ok, went today and got all new bulbs for the tail lights (just incase) Put them all in, all lights working fine but the light bulb light (lightbulb with !) has came back on and other electrics light is off! Any suggestions as to what the problem might be before I take it to the auto spark?! Any help greatly appreciated
Thanks

Nicole, from what I've read so far you've only concentrated on the rear bulbs. Being the LS model, it won't tell you specifically which bulb(s) is/are the problem. Only the higher spec Vectra-C's get the full bulb check system.
Back to my original thought - I take it you've checked things like the front side light bulbs, etc?

Hi Dave, yeah checked all lights including side indicators & number plate lights, everything is working fine, I am just concentrating on the rear lights as this was where the issue first was.
