Does anyone have any recommendation for getting a new Owners Manual, Service Book and/or Workshop Manual for a Fiesta Zetec 1.25?

I have recently bought one for my wife and it has little history. It was a cheap car and I'm happy to spend some money sorting out the niggly bits and getting it properly up together.

Other items I am looking to get done, if anyone has got any advice are:

1) Cambelt - Its 10 years old in July and without any history of this being done I will be looking to have it replaced in the next couple of months? The car has done 68,000 miles and will only do a small amount of miles.

2) It needs a new offside headlight fitting. The old one has taken a bump and has a large crack, although it has passed previous MOTs. New or second hand?

3) There is a small dent and crack in the paint on the nearside front wing. I'd like to prevent any further rust problems, but not sure I want to pay out for a repair and wing respray or even a replacement wing. Any advice for the cost I should expect for a small repair, or would I be better going for the full repair (someone locally has told me they would charge £160+vat for this work!).

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Owner's manual circa £30-40 from Ford, based on a guy at the parts desk last year wanting one for his Transit

1) Do it now if you can.

2) Get from breakers genuine Ford embosed.

3) Solid or metallic?

Thanks for your help so far - i'm not surprised that the manuals will be as much as £40. If the dealer is the only/best place for it, I guess that's what i'll do!

The colour is green, I'm pretty sure its a metallic! Will Ford be able to tell me the exact colour to match it up?

Having read some of the other Fiesta threads, I have another question!

The central locking works only with the key in the lock. The passenger side works both locking and opening the locks. The driver side will only operate when locking the car. Try to unlock at the driver door and - nothing!

Someone else mentioned the chance of corroded/broken wires at the point where the wiring heads through the door hinge. Is this the likely cause of this rather odd problem. I will try WD40 in the lock and am also happy to get to grips with the door lining and WD40 the mechanism, if it's going have a chance of resolving the problem. I'm sure the dealer will charge an arm and a leg to even take a look at it!

Cheers!

E-bay should have some manuals.

If it was my car I'd change the cambelt asap.

Smart repair for the dent ? - even Halfords do it now.

There's a Haynes guide for this car, I know cos I've got it, which is very good. Should cost you no more than £18 and probably less. As well as being a workshop manual it covers a lot that the Ford owners manual deals with, eg tyre pressures, service intervals, jacking points.
Ford recommend a change of cambelt at 10 years so get it done, should cost about £200.
You won't find headlamps at the breakers cos most of the cars they get in have front end damage already. A new unit is about £60-70 I think at the dealers but parts from motor factors etc are just as good and probably come from the same source. If you can get a new glass (which you would only obtain secondhand) it can be fitted with care to the headlamp unit.
If you give the dealer the car's reg no. their computer will tell them the colour and all the correct part numbers.

Most libraries hold full stocks of Haynes(and other)manuals.

I have a 1997 1.25 LX, if you just want the Ford owner's manual for reference rather than an official printed one, might be able to scan it and send as a file , if interested. Might be worth asking the dealer if they can access an electronic copy (would be cheaper).

You should be able to purchase a copy of the Ford TIS CD for a couple of pounds on Ebay.

You should also be able to purchase a headlamp unit (possibly a pattern part) from the same auction site.

Thanks for all your help, everyone!

I've been lucky enough to get the manuals, including a clean service book, from ebay.

My local scrapyard did have some models with no front end damage and so I was able to get a new lens for the light fitting! Cheap as chips too!

Its been a long time since I've visited a scrapyard and they've changed a bit since I last went scrambling over bonnets etc to get to the old Mk1 Escort at the back! :-)

I will get the belt done in the next week or so, the car is off the road at the moment until a brake caliper and MOT has been done.

Only thing to fix now is the central locking! Any ideas on that one?!
