2003 1.6 dualfuel LPG engine keeps cutting out. - Tron
Manufacturer: Vauxhall.
Model: Astra.
Type: Estate.
Fuel: Dual fuel - LPG/Petrol.
Trim: Elegance.
Engine: 1600cc.
Mileage: 52k.

***This only happens when running on LPG***

If I am slowing the vehicle down using just the the gears, as in approaching, roundabouts, give ways junctions or similar, when I lift the clutch to change gear (either up or down the box) the revs drop off almost instantly once the engine rpm is around 1.500 rpm (tickover is roughly 900rpm) and the engine simply cuts out.

Almost as if fuel is not getting through?

Running on petrol is (now since EGR was replaced last week) 100% ok though.

Any pointers please?

It is going back to the dealership I procured this from for them to look at as my local Vauxhall is not LPG authorised.

Would be beneficial to me if I had some idea what they are going to be doing.

could be the vapourizer on the LPG system. Part costs about £50 on Ebay, apparently they need changing annualy, they have a rubber diaphragm that perishes .

Did this start when the EGR was replaced? Will it idle on LPG stationary?

A percentage of our fleet vehicles, particularly the Protons, run on LPG. A common problem is that just as you are pulling away at a junction or in stationary traffic they stall. To compensate you end up excessively revving to keep going. Its nigh on dangerous! Anyway we have won some green Fleet awards or whatever they are for our contribution to the environment - so thats alright then.

This, along with the EGR problem, is one of the many that came with the vehicle.

It will start, run up on petrol and switch to LPG fine. It will sit on tickover on LPG or petrol with no problems att all.

Problem is when you start to use the engine, it has warmed up and you use engine breaking (on LPG) to reduce speed.

Dealership called today - the car goes back (2nd time to them and is now a total of 5 working days in a garage since I obtained it) this Monday 7 Jan.

It is going back because it cannot be driven on LPG at all now.

The lpg mixture needs to be richer - this is a common problem. There is a knob on the vapouriser that will do this, right to lean and left to richen. The vapourisers last for years.
