Selling Alloys - HLyon
I have a set of 17"alloys that I am planning to sell soon.

The Question is when to sell them. With Christmas so close, I'm not sure if they are likely to sell better on the run up to Christmas as presents or after Christmas when some folk may be looking to spend Christmas money?

The alloys aren't new and couldn't be mistaken for new as they are a bit marked, so I'm guessing the latter scenario might make more sense.

Put them up on eBay at a starting price equivalent to your minimum price.
Write an honest description of the condition and use lots of photos.
If that doesn´t work, try relisting them, starting at a quid.

As far as whether it would be better pre- or post-Xmas, who knows?

Best of luck.

I don't want to be a party pooper but the days when people spent Xmas money on second-hand alloys has long gone - they'll all be buying new non-OEM alloys with silly profile tyres.

You'll probably do best selling them on a Vauxhall forum - the Astra & Corsa "boys & girls" love to put large diameter wheels on but you'll need to specify whether they're 4-stud or 5.

I bought my girlfriend 4 sierra cosworth honeycomb 7 x15's with tyres for £100 off "a mate" last xmas for her XR3i Cab. With some scuffing they could do with a refurb but at £60 per wheel I didn't bother. They required 2 new tyres - £120 - plus I had to buy 12 wheel studs plus 4 locking studs at a cost of £60. The other 2 tyres will need replacing in less than 6 months. The £100 present is now approaching £300! I wouldn't do it again and would buy 4 off my local motor factor.
Whats the moral? Don't ask a lot whatever time you sell them!!!

Could put them on ebay now with a slightly ambitious start price or reserve, if they dont sell then list them again after Xmas??

I would second what SteveKay says, dont expect too much for them! Looking on ebay, only one set have sold recently for more than £300 inc. tyres. Lots of items have start prices of £300-£600 and not got any bids.

I bought some 16" OE alloys off Ebay to replace 15" steels and ghastly plastic trims. I paid £420 (a bit excessive, could have got some cheaper the week after) but they were fitted with 4 v.g.c. Michelin Pilot Primacy tyres, which I got about 15k miles wear out of.

My winter tyres on steel rims for the Astra are going on the car tomorrow.
Continental WinterContact, 8mm tread all round, ?75 for the set on eBay. Still plenty of tread left after 2 winters and 10k miles.
Suffice to say I was happier than the seller!

I bought a set of 16" genuine audi alloys , bit untidy but with 2 very good and 2 OK tyres a short while ago on ebay.

£31.

Only bought to go on the car while ours get refurbed

So I second the - 'Dont expect to get much' brigade
