When in London on Saturday I returned to my car to find a ticket for not parking within bays, although I made sure this was ok with the parking atendent before I left the car. The number plate on the ticket is incorrect by one didget will they use there photo to correct there error??

Does it need to be defended? If you don't pay the ticket, they'll be chasing some-one else with the Reg No on the ticket.

Until the other person says 'not me, guv.' And they refer to the photograph to prove it to the bloke who lives in Kendal and has never been to London. And they see it is YOUR car, so you have to pay up without the benefit of the paid within 4 weeks option.

How does one enter a counter attack on this one?
If one writes in straight away about the incorrect number is this not an admission that a ticket was placed on the car thereby guilt admitted.
If one waits until receipt of Notice to Owner which will be sent in the fullness of time, firstly they, before sending this out, will check with DVLA and may come up with different make/colour which will lead them to check the camera shot they will have taken and send N2O to offender with the correct number. Or, on sending to the Reg keeper of the wrong number, accept his explanation and drop matters aghainst him an then go for camera evidence of the true number.
At N2O stage then bang goes the discount which could be £60 if it is what they class a serious breach or £40 for the lesser transgression.
One could cross fingers and hope that on sending N2O they again quote wrong number but I don't think this will happen as mentioned above.
If this had been before 'decriminalisation' then before a Mags Court summons would have been amended and case proceeded with.
Cannot see, under circs, how a case can be prepared that would get the sympathy of a Parking Ajudicator on appeal.

You can't be done if they have failed to serve you with a valid notice of offence. The evidence is not valid - the number is wrong. It would not stand up in court. The photo is not enough., That is only supporting evidence. Write back with the details and say you have no knowledge of the owner of the vehicle concerned.

If it should go all the way to court they will use the 'slip rule' to make minor changes based on supporting evidence, the photo. They use this rule to correct names and numers on NIP's so a parking tickets is an easy one. Sorry. Regards Peter

I'd be tempted to fight this one, just for the sake of it. If they can't record the number right on the official document then they aren't doing their job properly, these are the kind of mistakes Nick Freeman bases his defences upon (well you get the general idea of what I mean). Who says that they actually have any photographic evidence anyway?

If the recepient of the PCN does not pay then they send Notice to Owner with the offence details. If he goes into dialogue/representation with LA before this it indicates that PCN has been served.

PCN's do not go to a Mags Court. They are either admitted and paid or there is an appeal procedure one has to follow and which ends with the Patking Adjudicator. All very informal.

There's bound to be a photograph; parking wardens take photographs as a matter of course these days.

The same thing happened to me , and our local wardens photograph the vehicle in question.
Never heard anymore about it. I wouldn't be suprised if the ticket is invalid if the details are wrong anyway.

Happened to me - I called the number on the ticket and asked them to confirm the registration details.
They were out by the same digit so I thanked the nice lady and didn't pay, never heard from them again.
It's possible that they don't bother cross-checking photograph against documentation, especially as there might be a considerably delay between being ticketed and the owner of the incorrect registration proving that a mistake has been made.

Won't this mean that whoever has the proper reg plate (the same as the one that was written down) having a lot of hassle and probably thinking their car has been cloned?

The ticket man, money graber what ever they call themselfs put down my Reg number as four letters no numbers, that would be a plate that dose not exist????????
