Hatch '94 Central Locking Fault - howy868
I have a problem with the central-locking on my 1994 Cavalier. The front passenger door has become permanently deadlocked, so I can?t open it using the key in the driver's door, and the button won?t lift manually. The driver?s door, both rear doors and the boot lock/unlock deadlock normally from the key in the driver?s door.

I presume that the problem is with a switch or motor inside the passenger door itself, but that gives me the major problem of accessing the inside of the door when I can?t open it!

Is there a manual way to ?un-deadlock? the door in these circumstances?

Alternately what are my chances of removing the passenger door trim panel, with the door closed, without significant damage?

Any advice is most welcome.

As the other doors have unlocked this may not work but ...

Try putting the key in the ignition and turning to the ACC positio. Operate the driver's lock button manually.

Not sure how to manually un- deadlock the door but the card is easy to remove but you may have problems with the area around the dash

1 Remove the three screws along the bottom of the door.
2 Prise off the trim piece at the top of the interior handle. Remove the screw.
3 Remove the screw at the bottom of the interior handle
4 Prise out the orange clip in the lock button
5 Release the plastic clip in the door pocket at the end opposite to the hinge.
6 Pull the door gently from the bottom running your fingers around the edge to release the clips.
7 Lift the door card up bringing the bottom edge out.

Sounds like the cdl motor has failed. You may be able to open the door with the following method.Get a good pair of pliers/grips on the pop up button and carefully pull the button up beyond its normal length of travel.Best way the door will unlock, worst way the plastic internal link will break (part of cdl lock motor)and may allow door to open.hth

Unfortunately nothing worked to unlock the deadlocked door, but thanks for the suggestions.
But I have managed to part remove the trim panel to get limited access to the inside of the door.
Now I am feeling around inside, trying to find a lever or something which will manually release the lock, but I do not know what I amfeeling for...
Any ideas would be most welcome.

yes take the trim off the working door to see how it works, this will be better than giving what could be misleading info
