Vauxhall (Fiat) 1.3 CDTI engines - dsuk
Hi does anyone have any experience of these engines in relation to reliability etc, especially at higher mileages. I think it has a chain driven cam, is this correct? I am looking at an Astra with a 89 BHP version fitted to it. Yes I know it will be slow compared to the 1.7 100bhp or the 1.9 engine but fuel economy is the number one priority for the car.

According to HJ's CBCB, yes.

"Excellent 90PS version of 1,248cc chain cam diesel announced April 2005. 6-speed transmission. Up to 70.6mpg (58.9mpg combined). 130g/km C02. BIK band 15%."

Dsuk, we had an Astra estate 1.3td on hire in Portugal and real-world economy was pretty poor, as the thing needed a bit of a thrashing to get anywhere. Although it´s a pretty impressive feat to move a car that size with a 1.3 diesel anyway
The 1.7 diesel engine got a good writeup in an Italian mag I read recently - 120ps I think.
