Has anyone out there experienced noisy front brakes on the above model. The vehicle in question has vented discs but does not have A.B.S
The noise can only be described as a metallic graunching/rubbing noise when braking gently after the car has been used for about half an hour. The pads and discs are all in good condition and are well within tolerance. There is no run-out on the disc and even the local supplying Rover dealer does not know why this occurs.
The car has just completed 60,000 miles with FSH but this has been happening for some time.

What pads are you using? Could be the pads are too hard.
Sounds similar to the problem series 1 R800s had where the discs would warp, but only once they were warm. If this is so, the only cure is a new set of discs.
Ask the dealer to check the service bulletins for this model or ask some of the independant Rover specialists eg Moto Build (somewhere near London).
Can't help thinking you're going to end up getting new discs. Try EBC replacements (A1 motor factors stock these) with EBCs kevlar or Green Stuff pads.

Had several problems similar to yours which have been caused by inclusions in the brake pads. By this I mean that when you remove a pad and look at it you will see bits of hard shiny metallic bits dotted around the pad that sort of look like impurities. I now use Apec brand pads which dont seem to suffer with this. I recently did the pads on my T4 van which were only 3/4 worn but you could hear me coming every time either by the squealing or graunching. New Apec pads and alls well
