Any ideas what would cause this?
It's happening to my used Volvo S80 (2003 model). When you press the brake pedal it makes a clicking noise.
It has happened on a couple of trips out in the car, but other times has not.
The noise sounds like it is coming from just below the dash. It still happens after the ignition is switched off.
There does not appear to be anything wrong with the brakes apart from the annoying noise.

Since it also happens when the ignition is off it might be something as simple as one coil of the pedal return spring rubbing on the neighbouring coil. If you can get at the pedal mechanism, spray a lubricant on whatever part of it you can. Use something which isn't too messy or smelly, such as a silicione spray lubricant. It's got to be worth a try.

In addition to the spring possibility and assuming its only a single click each time it might also be a worn switch, e.g. Brake light switch, cruise control, etc.
