Roofbars - what's a fixpoint? - smokie
A mate has offered to lend me his roof box so I'm looking to buy some roofbars for the trip to the Le Mans 24h next month.

The car is an 04 Vectra hatch.

For conveneience, I'm loooking online. There seems to be a choice of "cars with fixpoints" and without, for my model.

If I slide back the caps on the rof there is a shiny block there. Is that a fixpoint?

Probably, my old Astra had fix points concealed beneath a sliding strip. I think you'll find universal roof bars have a variety of fittings to suit different makes. Does the manual not say, or how about nipping into Halfords and seeing what they sell for their various bars and boxes as I expect they will list the fittings for all common car models and boxes? Having said all that we actually bought our roof bars from Vauxhall themsleves and they were very good and not too expensive as I recall. Good luck

Thanks. Went to Halfords as suggested - very nice lad looked at my car and confirmed what DD said - I have fixpoints.

Halfords were something around £125 for the whole shebang (Thule), about £30 cheaper for their own brand. Found an online place with the same Thule parts for just under £100. Bit expensive for a week, but if I decide not to keep them there's always eBay...

Some recent info

Do check that the roof box fixings align with the roof bars as fixed point is what it says - no sliding bars forwards or aft to match the box.

Have a look at the Thule site and you will see the different adaptors.
Mondeo 1/2 ,earty Astras ,Sierra Saphhire, some Mitsis all have fixed point.
You can also deduce what length bars you need if you ago the Ebay way.
You may also find S/H OE on Ebay.

Smokie, what was the online place with the cheaper Thule parts? Might be going down the same road with roof bars etc myself.
