Good morning..
Thought I'd do my front discs and pads soon - couple of questions:
Do you need to fit new caliper bolts / pad retaining springs?
Set of mintex from e-bay at 52 pounds, or Dealer ones at 76?
thanks

Wouldnt personally use ebay sourced items for things such as brakes.
They may however be perfectly genuine.
Always use new caliper bolts, retaining springs not so important as long as old ones ok.
Price sounds dear though? Try local motor factors for a price comparison?

They could be standard bolts or allen key bolts I have never heard or seen anybody change them unless they are damaged ,you could put drop of blue locktite on them if fancy.

Buy a Pad & disc kit from vauxhall, at least if they develop a fault you can drive it to the dealer & ask them to change them FOC. The vauxhall kit comes with everything you need & it all fits with less sqeaks I wouldn't bother with e-bay

I very much agree with the above comments.
Brake pads are just about the most bog standard part of a car. Made in millions they last about 3-4 years and give few problems. HOWEVER, this is only if they are a top make. A top make is not difficult or expensive.
As a student I ran on cheap brake shoes, but after fitting some Mintex to an Hillman Imp you could put it on its nose. The bite, feel, pressure etc were a fantastic lessonin how to spend a few bob more.
This Vauxhall is a very standard vehicle. Any good shop can supply Mintex, Ferodo, Textar or any of the top makes for straight reasonable money. On ebay you have no idea if they are Chinese or whatever, and there is a 30% chance with the hub stripped down ....they don't fit.
Pay up, sleep at night, and relax with 3 years of no worries and easy MOT brake passes.

thanks for the advice. I've phoned around a few places - the genuine GM parts seem the same price or cheaper than motor factors.

See how much www.autovaux.co.uk want for them. 99% of the time they will distribute genuine GM parts. From past comments, it's best to phone them than emailing them.
