thought i may have had a damaged wheelbearing front but now seems to be drive shaft how long will it take to repair a intermediate housing on a drive shaft on a pug 205 stdt and will i need any special tools ta ?????

Not sure what you mean by repair the housing? The bearing is part of the drive shaft, and just sits in the housing, held in by two 'hockey stick' bolts. The only tool out of the ordinary you need to get the shaft out is a 35mm socket and long breaker bar to undo the hub nut (assuming it is like all the other PSA diesel hubs). The easiest way to change the bearing is to fit a new shaft - this might be a challenge on a 205 though so you may need to change the bearing - in which case you'll need a looooong armed bearing puller to get it off. If the housing is damaged it's simply a case of unbolting it and bolting a new one on once the shaft is removed. How long it takes depends on whether the bottom ball joint comes apart easily, the hockey stick bolts have not been bent by others, and the bearing is not seized in the housing. Anything from 1 hour upwards.....

cheers for that is it possible to get an exchange unit??

You might get an exchanger unit - however, I was out in our ZX the other night and realised that this bearing has probably gone on ours too (a dry whining / rumbling noise, related to car speed, but not varying on corners etc.). I looked up GSF and found that the bearing is only £10, whereas a new shaft is £120. I'm going to have a go at changing it - apparently it's possible to get the bearing off without a puller, but Machine Mart appear to do a puller for about £50 that should do the job (although it will probably need longer arms making), so I might buy one anyway.
