Just got my pads and discs for a 2002 corolla back today, now for some reason, the pads are slightly smaller than the disks, like 3mm each side, so the full face of the disc isnt bieng used as such, this doesn't seem normal, is it a case of incorrect parts?

pads dont run to end of discs, compare with old.
|
maybe the brake fairies hasve been nibbling the pads?
wheel wouldnt go round op if pads were any bigger
trust me

Isn't 2002 the first year of that model of Corolla?
I'm not sure if the previous one shared the exact same braking system, but is it possible someone in the parts dept has become confused with the year and given you a set of pads for the previous model?
Are these Toyota parts or similar spec?
Is the 3mm gap what you see when the pads and disks are on the car?
Quick check - Go to a Toyota delear and look at the gap on disks on the Corolla's on the dealer forecourt...

I have taken a look at mine with the wheel still on and they seem to fit properly, they did the same on my BMW.
They are aftermarket blueprint ones, it could just be the wrong part.
On my BMW they fit exactly.

3mm. either side is quite common.
|
Need to compare to old pads.
3mm is not acceptable; they should be identical size as far as the eye can reasonably tell.

Look at the wear pattern on your old discs, should be able to see them through the wheel holes, and compare.
The only way to be really sure is to remove your old pads and place them back to back. Should be identical.
|
If you look at the discs on any car through alloys, a small ridge of steel unswept by pads is visible all round the circumference of the disk. (it's usually covered in rust so cannot be seen on new cars !)
This is quite normal... and about 3mm in width:-)
