I recently had an immobiliser fitted to my XR2i and since then I have had trouble starting it on a few occasions. In fact twice it just wouldnt start. I find it funny that this started to happen the day after having the immobiliser fitted. The car most of the time does start, key in ignition and the fuel pump (i think) whirs and then you can fire it. Now occasionally i put my key in and there's no whiring noise and it just will not start. On one occasion i managed to get it going again and its been fine for last two days then it happened again tonight. Is it the fuel pump? Or could it be dodgy wiring or just the immobiliser?
Help????????

Did you ever have this problem before the fitting of the immobilizer?

Do you mean that the fuel pump doesn't prime, and the engine just turns over and over without firing or does the engine not even crank over?
If it is turning over without priming the fuel pump first then you need to establish why there is no feed to the fuel pump. It may just be a dodgy connection from the loom onto the fuel pump (seen it before) or you may have a tempremental fuel pump itself. The problem could be deeper routed though than this.

Had no problems what so ever pre-immobiliser thats why i think it must be that, or its caused the fuel pump to give up. The car turns over no problem, it just will not fire though. Like i said the fuel pump does not prime as it does not make the whiring noise when i turn my ignition on, when it is working ok it makes the noise. I'm going back to my car to try the other immobiliser key fob. Fingers crossed!

Was ok before the immobiliser was fitted. Not ok now.
Why would anything other than the immobiliser be the 1st and most likely candidate?
I know it could be other problems but the immobiliser HAS to be investigated 1st surely?

an afterfit immobilisor on a car like this is always going to cut the fuel and usually the low side ot the starter as well,
therefore its got to be a faulty immobilisor relay .
i hate aftermarket immobilisors more trouble than they are worth (unless top notch thatcham approved)
when i ran a nice little fiesta i cut into the fuel power feed cable that runs down the sill on the drivers side and fitted a discreet toggle switch just in case the ignition was smashed
pre 94 though
it doesnt need an immobilisor after this date as the red key is more than adequate

The immobiliser is a Toad Excel Cat2 immobiliser (sonar type), i got a mobile guy to fit it. I'm going to ring him and quiz him tomorrow. Is there anything i can do in the mean time?
Should i just get another more expensive immobiliser? I need it for my insurance, at least a cat 2.
