I really hope that someone is able to help.
I purchased a 1997 Ford Escort Encore 1.6 Automatic from a dealer on Wednesday and so far I have nearly crashed twice!
It is fitted with continuously variable transmission (CTX) which itself takes some getting used to if you are not used to it but on 2 occasions now I have gone to brake only to find the car accelerating which isn't a very nice feeling.
Its only luck that no other vehicles have been around at the same time. I wear quite chunky boots for driving so put it done to this but then my Dad took it for a test run today and the same thing happened to him!
Has anyone ever heard of this problem. I have driven for 20 years and have always been quite confident but as you can imagine I am not comfortable driving this vehicle.
Many thanks
Tony

yep I agree with jc2 return it & leave it there! I think you will find that it will become a love hate relation ship with your dealer & you will be returning often.so ask for your money back!. Its complicated but I had bad experience with everyone of these.Give an auto gearbox center a ring for advise on these cars and I think you will hear there voice drop with a sigh! I suspect the idle speed has been tampered with to stop it stalling due to a fault in the box! hopefully i'm wrong but I run a mile now when I see one

Many thanks for your replies. I will definately take your advice and return it first thing on Monday morning, although I'm a bit apprehensive about even driving it there.

The gearbox is fairly reliable but an expert is needed to set up all the control cables between the accelerator and various parts of the transmission.
