Seems Ford and VW Group models were mainly unaffected.

Talk of this on the news earlier and how they might filter it....

But compounds making up petrol = Carbon and Hydrogren. Compounds for Silicone = Silicone, Carbon and Hydrogren. So I guess a bit of cloth in a funnel should be okay to break down Silicone and capture all that Silicone.

Seriously, this is going to probably be very difficult and expensive. Petrol contents already takes a lot of distilling. So maybe they will burn it??? I hope not for the environment.

i vote they sell it off cheap...be ideal for older non cat cars

must be alot of garages having probs getting shot of it

Where does all the diesel/petrol mixture go that gets drained from people's tanks when they put the wrong fuel in by mistake?

I wonder if friends of friends of people who work in garages run old bangers on it.?
where will bad petrol go? - Simon
Yep it does have a habit of finding its way into old bangers and lawnmowers etc, but it does depend on how strong a mixture it is, in regards of the petrol to diesel ratio.

One of the garages I worked at used to sell fuel as well as a having a workshop, bodyshop, recovery trucks etc and all of the fuel from the fuel drains that they used to do went straight back into the underground tanks, which tank depended on what fuel made up the stronger part of the 'mix'. Consider that this was quite a few years ago and one car tanks worth of mixed fuel was a pretty small proportion of what it got diluted with in a large underground tank, it never did any harm. The only people who benefitted from this scheme were the owners of the garage.

Doh and for an edit button: "So I guess a bit of cloth in a funnel should be okay to break down Silicone and capture all that Silicone" should have been "So I guess a bit of cloth in a funnel should be okay to break down Silicone and capture all that Silicon". Still tongue firmly in cheek. This is going to be a major problem IMHO.

What I'd like to happen is the media start talking about all the problem catalytic converters.... the real cost of fixing the problem might be avoided otherwise.

I'd like to invest in a managed fund that specialises in the replacement catalyst and oxygen sensor futures market.

What if they added say ten per cent of it into each outgoing load. Would the dilution be to "acceptable levels"? Minimal loss to everyone, except the poor mugs whose cats may give up the ghost in the future.
I see it's likely to put a couple of pence per litre on fuel prices. I suppose someone had to make a profit out of it. Gordon'l be taxing it next.

Into a lot of ornamental 5ml. flasks labelled: 'Sample of the automobile fuel that started the final implosion of the so-called capitalist system'.

Accompanied by a genuine sample of Gavrilo Princip's DNA on a bit of blotting paper.

Nice one Lud! But I think you may have to explain the GP allusion for many viewers.

>>I see it's likely to put a couple of pence per litre on fuel prices>>

Because the supermarkets and other petrol retailers involved have stated they are replacing all the contaminated fuel. As there have been prices rises since they purchased the original fuel it is inevitable that motorists will have to pay more to fill up.

Because they are having to buy extra supplies on the spot market and this drives wholesale prices up.

I would have thought they could add a lead replacement compound and sell it that way.
