The nice people at Chrysler have now equipped the most recent versions of the 300C with a piece of software which automatically records your best 0-62 mph time in the cars computer.
Naturally I couldn't possibly condone anyone trying to 'beat the clock' on a public road, but to date, for a big lad, the car certainly shifts (in CRD, V8 Hemi & SRT8 guises).
Three cheers to Chrysler for adding a piece of kit (free of charge) that gives the driver sooooooooooooo much pleasure and will also boost the sales of Pirelli P7 tyres in Britain.

The point being that your car doesn't have that feature as it's the old model!

Now that's just cruel!!

but its oh so easily software upgradeable (apparently and hopefully ;);)
t'other thing is that Chrysler have buried it deep in the cars diagnostics, so its not easy to find - but the owners who have found it (not me though, boo, hoo) absolutely love it - as do Pirelli.

Nice to see Chrysler taking the time to waste money & add a useless feature like this to the 300C.
Shame they didn't spend some that money money on the Voyager, anybody else seen the truly awful EuroNcap test result its just been awarded?

I disagree with you, the people that I talk to that have it equipped think that its a great addition - I'm just surprised that the department for 'killing fun whilst driving' allowed it to be activated in the first place .
& it's not useless at all - it gives folk something to talk about :) ;)
I don't suppose that anyone wants to hear about the other safety option that Chrysler are about to add to the 300C ? Apparently, the horn that is equipped as standard isn't deemed to be 'butch' enough, so now for an extra £100/$200 you can specify an air horn that comes from a locomotive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because of its size (it's 4feet long) and the air tanks that it uses, you will lose some space from the boot, but the noise is deafening ------and it's been tweaked to make it 100% legal in the UK
Great stuff

What next? A female voice from the dashboard that soothingly says things like "No honestly, most women think it's the way you use it, not the size that's most important...."

Murphy,
Let us know if you ever manage to equal the manufacturer's quoted 0-62 time. I bet you can't. The gauntlet has been laid down!

Between 35 and 40 not very accurate what you really mean is 18 round town and 40 on the motorway if you drive at 50 mph.
|
Always thought a ship's foghorn installed under the driver's seat would be quite a good thief deterrent. A quiet voice would say: 'Serious injury may follow if you do not exit the vehicle within five seconds,' with the trumpet of doom then cutting in. Problem might be power source though.

Andy, as it´s the diesel, I´d give Murph the benefit of any doubt. He couldn´t afford the Hemi ;-)

OK, i'll elaborate and give you a bit more detail.
From every tankfull of mixed motoring, I'm getting 34-36 mpg. An a long distance motorway run (say 500 mile round trip) at a cruise controlled 80-85 mph, I get 40 mpg.
Which, for a big lad, is rather good (IMO)

sadly, i don't have the software upgrade (yet) to allow me to play the game, but the leader at the moment in a standard CRD has 6.64 seconds for 0-62 on BP Ultimate. On standard diesel, the best he could get was 7.04.
A Startech SD6 (Chrysler approved chip upgrade) has managed 6.08 seconds.
I can dig around and get some HEMI & SRT8 tims as well if you want ?

& keep your fingers crossed that the steep incline that I choose, is steeper than the one that they chose :) :)
Seriously though, most people seem to be getting the high 6's in the CRD. The SRT8 is under 5 sec (IIRC)

Oh ! BMWs haven't got this feature. I must get a 300C.

Well if thats the last thing that swings you over to a 300C, then thats grand.
I've never owned a BMW, but judging by the number of them on the road, they seem to be very popular. If you're as happy driving your BW as I am in my 300C, then both of us are a bit of a rarity on Britains roads - very happy campers.

Quick in a straight line? That's always difficult. Does it have a g-meter for the twisty bits? That would be much more interesting, perhaps it could be named the wobble-o-meter for this particular application. I wonder if anyone has posted a time at Cadwell for this lumbering Behemoth.

My 1997 Vectra 2.5V6 SRi had a stop watch in the multifunction display, so no need to find hidden options. Sure it was "manual", but all the more flexible with it and yes, on occasion I used it! For some reason the feature had been deleted from the display options come 2000 and the arrival of the Vectra 2.5 GSi Estate that I ordered to replace the earlier car.

Did you enjoy it ? It sounds like the sort of thing that the 'health & safety' people would hate. I'm glad that someone else has had the fun of it as well.

At the right time and place, oh yes!
Reading your H&S comment; I have long wondered if this is the reason the software was modified to remove it in later cars.

No that would be much to vulgar for the big fella to own.
I've never claimed, not even once, not ever, that the 300C is a car that is at its best on twisty roads - but I can confirm (as a driver who lives in the Lake District, home of the twisty, narrow, dry stone wall line roads) that if needs be, the big fella can lean & wobble around corners at an acceptable speed if the need exists.
But as for taking him to a race track - nah, I'll leave that to other people in their cramped little cars :)

Obviously Chrysler have come to know their market and the calibre of person who is buying these cars, and is being very pro-active.

You're correct. People who enjoy driving their cars and who want to confirm their performance potential in appropraite circumstances. But the funny thing is, you'd have to find another 300C owner 'in the know' to access it. Theres no mention of it in the handbook & the dealers don't know of its existence. :)

I bet the dealer mechanics know, and have great fun trying to beat the owners best time!

possibly, but the mechanics at my local dealer didn't until I showed them - not that they would be able to do an 'ahem, appraisal' on my car, as the software hasn't been upgraded (yet !)
