Heard today that my old eGT that I'd sold to a colleague at work had been sent to the great parking lot in the sky. He only got £40 for it at the scap yard.
I was wondering, in between the sobs, whether or not I should have offered to go halves with the cost of work needed just to know that it was still on the road. It needed new brake pipes and a little welding to pass its MOT.
I know you shouldn't get sentimental about old cars but I really did love that Primera and its engine was still like new even after 120k. Just feeling that a good car should still be around.

It should be saved for the sake of the environment. It is far greener to recycle an old car (by making it pass its MOT) than it is to switch to a 50mpg new car.

Wasn't really thinking of the environment- more the engine note it made at 3500rpm. It was wonderful around corners to boot. A bit ropey over the shockingly awful road surfaces we have in Rossendale but put your foot down in 2nd gear and ... well I'm getting all misty eyed again.

If all it needed was welding and pipes that does seem to be a real shame. Those old Primeras remain reliable well into old age, and someone who pulls that off the heap and puts an MOT on it is probably onto a winner as a cheap car.

I would have a bet that if its half tidy that it will be back out on the road with a new MOT and earning its keep mini cabing.

Yup, I had one of those and didnt realise quite how good it was until it had gone !

Me too.
Also had the same engine in a Sunny Gti whch, with lower gearing, was even better(Hot hatch of the year 1992 and 1993)

I'm too embarrassed to reveal what I changed it for, but what made it worse was that I flogged it off to a local dealer at an ok price (knowing it would get marked up) and then the bloke round the corner bought it and ran it for several more years !
He probably wouldnt have bought it from me privately as the dealer has a good reputation, but I regretted not putting a for sale sign in its window.
