Does anyone know if its possible to manually programme a blank transponder key for a 1998 S-Reg Nissan Micra? (Non-remote version)
I have a non-dealer transponder key that fits the ignition - any tips or shortcuts would be greatly appreciated. My Nissan dealer is currently holding me hostage to fortune!

No good news I am afraid. My daughter had this problem with her 1999 Micra 1.0 and we found that locally (Stockport area) there was very little choice.
Using the net and Yellow pages we found a few independent key cutters, but they all needed to use Nissan's facilities to code the key and in fact they were little cheaper than Nissan themselves.
Sorry not to be able to help, you are right to suggest that the manufacturers are holding you to hostage.

Is it just a spare key you need?
I had one cut and programmed for a P-Reg Micra using the original key without the need to connect to the car.
It cost £20-£30 in a place near Bolton.
Apparantly it depends what version of NATS (Nisan Anti Theft System) you have.

I purchased a new key complete with 'blank' transponder; in effect the key fits the ignition, however, I now need this to be programmed to the car.
I'm not sure what version of NATS I have, however if you do have the number of your Bolton contact, that would be much appreciated. I'm also looking at a similar link on this site that refers to spare keys for Rover 620's which mentions several 'auto locksmiths' who may be able to help. Thanks. GE

Thanks for the link. I think I've cracked it! A local locksmith (www.keypit.co.uk/ ) closer to home nr Oxford quoted me £10 for programming the key - local nissan dealer quoted me around £150 for new key and programming!!
