If they import the saloon version of the new Dacia Logan (Built by Renault! it proudly says on the back) The model name? The Lumpi (seen recently in Montpellier)

Reminds me of the Citroen Despatch and Relay vans. Or, as the French knew them, the Jumper and the Jumpy.

It would be a better solution not to import the thing at all. Not a great car by any means, even accepting it's low price. This car in the UK will do nothing to enhance Renault's reputation or image.
|
Being selling Logans for a long while in Germany and have a superb reputation for build quality and came higher than VW in ADAC reliability tables .You gets what you pays for at under 7000euros they are a good buy if all you need is cheap transport.

I hate this detestable car, there seems to be one being raffled in every shopping centre in Warsaw at the moment. I'd give up driving if I had to have one of these.
|
Loads of these cars in Bucharest (no surprise there). It's not called Lumpi, it's just a badly designed badge!
It actually reads 1.4mpi (or 1.3mpi?), referring to the engine!
Confused me for a while too though!

When I was road testing cars for a living I tried, gently, to point out to Lancia that although it was on a reasonable motor, 'Dedra' probably was a mistake as a UK type name.
Turned out to be the last nail in the coffin...

The model name is important for any item, not just a car. Remember Wang computers ? Their slogan was "Wang Cares", and they are not around now.
|
Wasn't that around the time BT was trying to sell a computer system called "Tonto"?
"Tonto" meaning "Red Indian helper" in television but "stupid" in Spanish.

It is quite intresting reading up on diffrent cultural activities around the world. I really like the HSBC adverts that explain in two diffrent cultures the same hand gesture can mean something compleatly diffrent. I once knew someone called Wang King, as I type I'm still LOL!
I have always thought the 'Rabbit' in america (our golf) was a very strange name, but then again the americans like naming models after animals.

A considerable number of car model names over the years have been perfectly acceptable in some countries and treated with derision in others.
In fact Top Gear used to have a column detailing all the ones that used to cause amusement in certain countries.

I hadn't realised they'd sold enough to appear in the ADAC statistics. I do remember the roadtests in the German motoring rags though. Auto Motor und Sport managed to get it on 2 wheels doing their standard slalom test and it was generally criticised for a very long braking distance (probably even worse in practice as anyone who buys one of these is never going to pay to get it serviced). It also did very badly in crash tests.
I've seen lots of these in Eastern Europe and for me 7000 Euros says "Used Golf". Kias have never looked so appealing. Honestly, life's too short.

Could be even shorter if you buy one!
