VW mk2 1L Polo and a Pierburg 1b3 - sparky93
right. mk2 1043cc polo with 1b3 on it.
over 2 weeks, was getting a little harder to cold start.
then on one night of warm engine drive, it kepts stuttering as if it had run out of fuel, then recovering itself again.(has a new filter b4 that happened)
limped home.
looked in morning and it failed to fire. took cover off airbox and found fuel spurting up out of carb top.
conemmed carb. got another off a scrapper and that fixed car for 6 months.

Then, same again happened. Got another carb and again it runs.

but still got the faulty one. I have it in 2 halfs in my room. i put float in water to see if it takes on water, left it for a week, but seems ok.

what would cause fueul to spurt n bubble n gurgle? so i can repair it

Float valve sticking open?
VW mk2 1L Polo and a Pierburg 1b3 - sparky93
float valve/needle moving freely and is attached to float. seals ok.

sparky

Long time since I've seen one; but I think they had a restrictor in the fuel return hose to limit the flow. Not getting blocked and causing excess fuel pressure on the needle valve is it?

If you refering to the hose to tank, then i can only assum that its not, as replacing the carb solved the fault. I just want to repair old one if poss for a spare.

is the needle valve dirty or worn?
is the needle valve screwed in properly and the 'ó' ring sealing?
and is the float pivot alowing the float to move properly and sending the needle straight onto the valve seat?

is the needle valve dirty or worn? no, nice uniform pointy red seal.

is the needle valve screwed in properly and the 'ó' ring sealing? theres no screw, held in place by float.

and is the float pivot alowing the float to move properly and sending the needle straight onto the valve seat? yes.

The needle is held by the float, but the equally important valve seat is screwed into the carb body, and sometime has a sealing o ring.
