The past 2 days I've noticed a strange smell coming from my front wheels post driving. The pads were changed in May of this year and although there is no problem with braking I'm thinking that the brakes are rubbing, although I'm not sure. Any suggestions? If this is the case how much should I be looking to pay? It takes an hour to drive to and fro work (although it's only 45 miles there) driving country roads with sharp coners and braking, makes me think that this is exacerbating the problems.

Take it to one of these fast fit centres for a free check, at least you will find out the problem maybe a sticking caliper?? cheap easy repair if so..

But if you take it to a fast fit centre for a free check, the probability is that they'll miss the simple fix and recommend new disks / pads and from experience they won't last much longer than the 12 months warranty.

Hey thanks for the assistance guys. I was going to give up hope of any responce

A good test is to put you hand on the wheels when you have finished your journey if they are really hot you probably have a binding brake ,but I would find it unlikely for both sides to go at once.

Thanks for all those who provided assistance. I went to the local fast fit type garage who did a free check. They couldn't find much wrong, slightly excessive wearing on one side, but not greatly. They said the pads should be greased more. However, they said that oil had been dripping (the well known garage i'd been to had done an oil change and not tightened up the filter properley) out of the car and it was probably hot oil that I could smell (not sure) but at least I don't have to worry.
