How do I get the old ball joint off? I've drilled out the 3 rivets and got the end off the wishbone, but the vertical bit at the top won't come off the hub for all the effort I've put in. Left it all to soak in wd40 overnight, although it already moves around a bit so not seized in.
I'm thinking I'm gonna have to hammer it out from the top but the drive shaft is in the way to get anything to it.
Help would be very much appreiciated, as I'm now stuck with a car in bits that can't even be towed to a garage cause I can't get it back together...

You will have to buy or borrow a ball joint seperator ...
The type that is tapered and you use as a punch ...
In the space between the joint and the hub assembly.

Thanks for that mate, will have to get one in the morning. Was hoping I wasn't gonna have to undo the hub nut to get to things.

I only use the one Henry k has indicated if the ball joint isn't to be re-used. I find that those type tend to tear the rubber seals.
I much prefer this type:-

(if there's space at all)

Got this done in the end, was a bit of a pain in the rear job - ended up taking me about 3-4 hours but then it was my first time at changing one. Joint cost me about £11. Out of interest what would a garage have charged for this job?

its easier to replace the whole wishbone,i got one for £8.00 off ebay and it took about 30 mins to fit
no messing about with rivets and stuff

Have you had the tracking checked since the job. Regards Peter
