Greetings John
I should like your advice on which of 2 cars is likely to be a better buy.
Volvo S40 2.0 SE Turbo Saloon 99(T) 13,000m £12,000 mettalic leather all mod cons 1 private owner being sold by Risegreen of Kingwood Surrey or a Rover 75 Club Connesseur 2.5 with all mod cons leather auto 27,000m £11,000 reg Jan 2000 with 3 year manufacturers warranty. Which will be less trouble free mechanically, which will hold its value better and which would you buy ?Your advice much appreciated. Thanks

My dad has a Volvo S40 2.0 LPT as a company car.
He's covered 80k in it & hates it. I've driven it twice & I hate it.
It's cramped and the door pillars obstruct visibliity in a dangerous way. These cars are way over complex my old man hasn't had any problems but if he did and it was a private car I reckon it would be a @!#$ to diagnose. It oversteers a *lot*.
Plus points: It does feel quick in a straight line and that engine does rev very freely. Also I bet they're dirt cheap second hand. The biggest plus point is that one of the resident experts here owns one and if *he* rates it, it must have some really good points that I've missed!

Dave,
>It oversteers a *lot*.
I thought these were fwd understeerers. Oversteering Volvos are quite fun.

75 sounds much nicer. S40s are really just parts bin euro-saloons (part mitsubishi I believe - correct me if wrong), the Rover is a nice motor and you get a V6 :)
I think residuals on both won't be much to write home about, but I think the Rover would probably be better.

ROb F - I wrote *understeer*!
I really did!
Has someone found the edit button?
Anyway I meant understeer.
