Our Trajet has started knocking from the front when braking and steering at low speeds.
We took it into our local Hyundai dealer (at a time to suit us) and they offered us a courtesy car at no cost other than a £15 insurance charge and will have it repaired within 48 hours. Seems like good service to me. any comments. Am happy to name as its not shaming.

any comments.
You seem easily pleased?
(and I've never paid for courtesy car insurance in all the years I've had courtesy cars)
|
Paying for courtesy cars is one reason we won't be going back to MB and their charge was only £10. As for rest of your experience it's how Audi have treat me to date.
|
You will have paid,it might not have been itemised as such, thats all.
|
1) You mean they don't come and get it and
2) They don't drop off a free top of the range model for you to try whilst they have it?
Strange...

I have found dealers will try and charge, but if you ask they waiver it. £15 sounds a bit steep.
Worst are Ford who stopped courtsey cars at my local dealer and opened up Ford Rental, yes they want to RENT you a car whilst your paying them to have yours fixed! Its a full blown Rental service.
|
Does seem a little odd this. My Hyundai dealer always offered courtesy cars for free, and would happily give me a choice of vehicle ("would you like to try out the new xxx for a day?"). They also offered to drop the courtesy car off and collect mine as well. This was true of servicing as well as any repairs (there was only one).
|
Bear in mind the repair is under warranty and the alternative car was offered without any notice. Most dealers want two weeks notice before a courtesy car is available. The £15 is only for insurance, not per day.
|
Could the knocking be safety related so they are obliged to ensure that you dont use the vehicle?
|
The £15 is only for insurance, not per day.
As most cars are only taken for a day its a mite high don't you think. Its not for insurance at all as the car is already insured its another money earner. You can also use your own insurance at no cost if you like but when you mention this they do not like it.
|
Whenever I've had a courtesy car, I get the details the day before and call my insurance company (Endsleigh). They fax a cover note to the dealer, and I get free insurance on the courtesy car. Dead simple, and as it's temporary replacement cover, it's completely free.

Our experience of Hyundai has been superb and with no insurance costs on loan cars.
What you do have to watch for are dealers that are new to Hyundai who may have dealt with a different make before.
Ive seen this make a huge difference as your long standing Hyundai dealer will have cusomer service licked, but a dealer that previously did say, Fiat in the last 5 years, would likely be a disappointment.
The best dealers are the smaller ones not located in towns who have long experience of the make and thus how to make customers happy and retain them.

recently had to take my Renault scenic in for warranty work. I used two different garages for the work, two different faults. One garage needed a weeks notice for a courtesy car and charged £25 for the insurance. The other required £15. Would not have grumbled too much but the first garage managed to make things worse on a simple repair. Would not buy another Renalt but thats another story.....

Our local dealer serviced my daughter's car, and ticked all the boxes. When the brakes were worn, a week later, we got Radio Northampton to follow up, and they persuaded the dealer to refund the money they extracted from daughter. Strange how their attitude suddenly goes into reverse when confronted by threat of bad publicity.
Dealer is closing shortly. (Another one)

My one just gives me a lift home and collects me. Perhaps it's some of the ageist spite we see in the Backroom?
|
Contrast to Bob's tale above, I took the Grand Scenic in to our local dealer two weeks ago.
They advised that some recall work had to be done immediately and they had to have the car for 6 hours and as it was deemed a safety issue they could not release the car until it was done.
This would have left me with a problem as I had to have a car to do the school run that afternoon. Realising my predicament, the reception staff immediately supplied me with a courtesy car, no charge for insurance or fuel.

Well, car came back within 24 hours all fixed.
I've very happy with the service. My wife rang up at 9am on Wednesday morning and asked if she could bring the car in at about 11:30am. They said yes and when she arrived they offered lift or a courtesy car. The £15 was for our insurance company not their's. The fault was identified and parts ordered. They arrived this morning and the car was back with my wife by midday. I think that's good service.

I had a 'first ever' experience with a dealer / courtesy car recently - took my daughter's SEAT in for service and they not only gave me a car, but also gave me a £10 voucher for petrol for it!!
|
That was one thing that annoyed me about the courtesy cars -- no petrol in them. Ever.
SWMBO noted that the petrol low light was on on one Kia we got, so she put £20 of petrol in.
We gave it back 6 hours later, having gone about 20 miles in it.

out of interest what was the problem as my hyundai does it?
|
|
Was it your front offside suspension strut top bearing failed/failing? If so, expect it to happen again! Mine did twice, but Hyundai does not regard this as a recurring problem. Apart from that my local Main Dealer never charged for a courtesy car, even at short notice.
|
The problem was a clunking from the offside at low speed and when turning.
I have no idea of the cure as SWMBO took the car in and got no paperwork at all when she collected the car, so I have no idea of what the cure was. I know many people with Trajets and no-one has commented on this problem so I do not know how often it will recur.

Sounds familiar, dull clunk when, in my case, turning into my drive at >5mph or 3 point turns etc. AsI said it happened twice and when the warranty got to four years+ got rid through loss of faith. However I still like the VFM of Hyundai and have a workhorsre Elentra Diesel with which I am quite satisfied
