European Petrol Prices - Mike Wright
I will shortly be embarking on a holiday that will involve driving through France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium.

Is there a web site where I can compare current petrol prices in all of these countries to help plan the best times to fill up?
Re: European Petrol Prices - matt
European fuel prices can be found on the TV on cefax. I can't remember which page but you can locate in the main index.

Thanks for the responses. I carried on searching on the web and found this little beauty on the AA site.

Luxembourg is worthwhile going through if you plan to find the cheapest petrol - especially if you don't have a diesel. Last summer I paid 44p a litre for unleaded! Also road going down from Brussels area to Lux is pretty quite and scenic. Before you go, make sure you know the exact type of unleaded your car takes as the forecourt options can be a tad confusing!

These is a teletext page on BBC2 which will give you this info. I don't know how often it is updated but it is a good guide. Go to Teletext page 199, the index, and look for European Fuel prices
Re: European Petrol Prices - Tony Cooper
I have just returned from a trip to Austria and I can tell you that the petrol (95 octane) is £0.53 a litre in Luxembourg. In Germany it was £0.68. Austria is about the same. It is strange to me to now see British vehicules deliberately filling up in Europe when they used to avoid that like the plague!
Frankly, anywhere in Europe will probably be cheaper than in rip-off Britain.
Have a good trip.

Not "probably" but certainly, due to the high tax in the UK. I see from today's paper that the Germans are complaining at paying 69p per litre for unleaded over Easter.
Diesel is around 30% cheaper in France than the UK and even less in Luxenburg.
And before someone comes up with the old chestnut "ah, but you pay motorway tolls in France", the toll motorways are privately run and the money goes to build and maintain the road and not to the government.
Let's face it, in the UK if you spend £25 per week on fuel you are paying £20 in tax, regardless of whether you are a company director on £500k per annum or a factory worker on £10K per annum, drawing family income supplement.
