Are there any *good* websites which allow the motortrade to advertise thier trade-ins to other motortraders ?
Emotorhouse seems to have stopped updating and has a very poor search facility.
I have recently started to trade part-time again but find it difficult getting to auctions so sourcing vehicles via the net is a nice solution.

You could try this trade web site;

Having done it Steve, I think the art of successful trading is the buying, not the selling. This is usually achieved by building up a round of personal contacts, underwriting, buying a load of pigs to get your foot in the door, and often having to bung the manager a fistfull too. Every now and again they will let you have a good one, so you keep on buying the left overs. Keep this up for a year or two when you can start to be selective. Pay wads of VAT to the old customs & excise, get let down by your buyers, buy the odd one with some outstanding chuckie on it or on the register, get you leg well and truely lifted over misdescriptions, and you are becoming established. And this is with people you have met before and perhaps dealt with.
Many companies now have an auction all policy to stop the 'bung the manager' temptation, and other will surely only put on the web stuff their normal traders will not touch with a barge pole. To make some profit, you will consider not trading, but retailing one or two on- perhaps pretending to be private to avoid warranty costs, income tax etc. , or have the expense of finding a pitch/ showroom or whatever. I did it (legitimately) for a number of years and it's a hard way to make a living! Have I put you off yet?
All the very best

Thanks for the website Moosh.
Mike i know exactly where you are coming from.
Buying decent cars at trade price is difficult these days. Too much competition for the decent stuff at auctions. Part ex's at garages are traded off to the favoured traders who will often buy in bulk.
I have used Emotorhouse to source 2 good trade cars but this website seems to have stopped updating.
I think the only way of successful trading these days is dealing in niche markets.This has several benifits - youre advertising is more effective,you can learn your chosen area backwards (stop potential mistakes buying cars you know little about) and building up relationships with regular customers.
As i said this is a part-time business for me so its not my only source of income.To trade full-time requires a lot of bottle/capital and i dont have either !

Yes, niche is good. I know a bloke who has only dealt in Jags for years. Still making money. You might try lease companies as although most auction the cars, there are disposal lists sent to favoured people prior to auction.
Best of luck,
Mike
