VW Golf MK 2 has failed its MOT today because the front nearside brake hose is rubbing on the suspension strut.
The rubber clip that is supposed to hold it steady to the strut has broken, it looks like the clip comes with the hose.
Can any one tell me if there is an after market device that will deal with this problem or will I have to buy a new brake hose?

Do you mean the rubber grommit?
|
if the hose has failed because its chaffed it needs replacing .
used to do a good turnround in citroen ax"s and my mot man used to fail everyone citing the fact the hoses were rubbing i therefore went to the scrappies and cut lots of hoses that had the steel springs round them and fitted these to subsequent ax"s prior to testing (there was nothing wrong with the hoses mind)
what im trying to say is change the hose if neccessary but fabricate something to secure the hose so the problem doesnt return even if its lots of gaffa tape and a tie clip.

The hose is in good condition and is unmarked.
I have put a cable tie on it at present but am wondering if this will be acceptable to the MOT examiner?

Yes Dox I mean the rubber "Grommet".
I was asking if an "over the counter" alternative was available as the original was asembled over the hose when it was made.

Go to your local scrapyard and cut the grommet off using a craft knife (single cut), then glue the cut after fixing to the brake pipe with the cut in the bottom of the horseshoe shaped bracket. Or replace the flexi
