Is there, or does anyone know of, an electronics genius out there who could build a break-out box for me please ?
Box for use on the system of one model only (not the whole range) and can be in-line connection or use the existing three pin socket.
Any "relevent" input would be much appreciated. Thank you.

exactly what I was thinking Andy! You beat me to it.

A Break out box (BOB) is a wiring interface that can be connected into a wiring loom to enable diagnostics to be carried out by means of a multimeter, scope etc.
It looks like a square box with lots of jack plugs on it, IIRC
|
Like daisy-chaining something into the printer lead?
|
|
|
Most electronic engine control systems have a two or three pin socket already in the wiring looms to enable diagnostics to be done-a full 60 or 104 pin breakout box is really a development tool.
|
|
I should add that for several years now it has been a legal requirement for all new cars to have a diagnostic socket in the passenger compartment usually under or at the side of the dash.

Pete,
I assume that by 'breakout box' you really mean an analyser for the cars diagnostic port ?
If so... what is the make, model and year of the car ?

Hello Kevin.
Thank you for your response to my post. Could you please contact me direct on petel@clara.co.uk for the detail required. Thank you again.
|
Pete,
You really need to tell us what make, model and year of car you are referring to.
I can help you with vehicles that use GM ECU's (Chevy, Opel, Lotus etc.) and also Porsche.
If it ain't one of those, someone else on the forum may be able to help.
Regards, Kevin...

Give me a more detailed discription of what you want and I can advise better

Break-out boxes are by design, normally used as a 'universal' tool.
It would not make economic sense to manufacture one for a specific model only.
It's a bit like asking for someone to make you a multimeter to work on Video recorders only. The end would not justify the means.
If you have the knowledge to use a break-out box, and you do not have access to standard diagnostic equipment,
(forgive me)
a) you would not need to place a posting on here asking someone to make one for you
b) it would be easier to use your multimeter to probe the connections directly
Which component on your system do you suspect?
Do you have access to a digital scope meter such as Bosch PMS100?

Diagnostic tool wanted is apparently for a Magneti Marelli unit in a '92 to '96 Panda with Webber SPI head.
Anyone help ?
|
A real break-out box fits between the module and the wiring loom and gives you a connection into every terminal in the module-as I have already said it's a development tool.
|
Thank you for the correction Mr Cronin.
I used the term "Break-out box" because this is what I was given to understand, that these units were commonly called and that anyone who builds them would recognise the term.
Seems I was misinformed. Appologies for any confusion.
