Alternator on primera we bought a few weeks ago has failed. We have a replacement alternator. Can't find where the old one is! There is a correct sized looking item top front of the engine attached to pulleys. Haynes doesn't give us a clue. Where is it?! Everything is getting a bit fraught as the car needs to be ready for tomorrow for sister in law and her family, eeek!
Any clues?!

It will be the only small paint tin looking device with *just* electrical wires coming out of it. Anything else on a pulley that has pipes as well is not an alternator. They also normally have slots cut in the side or one end (pulley end normally) for ventilation.

Luckily it is the altenatory looking thing at the front :-) He disconnected it and the car still cranks so luckily the alternator isn't the obscured thing attached to the pulleys at the back. I think we would have gone mental had it been! The one on the car has some sort of covering over the vents or is a slightly different design to the one we have as a replacement which confused things.
It is amazing how trying to do things under pressure means you really can't see clearly....

Everything is sorted now at last. Alternator seems to have been replaced before as the one from it isn't a nissan one. Will now mostly be working Mr Nice Cup Of Tea :-)
