I've just bought an R reg 60,0000 mile automatic 1.6 sport version. Cam belt was changed at 40,000 receipt supplied does it need changing again soon? Any tips? Bernardo

Most, if not all manufacturers also specify that a belt should be changed every "x" years, or mileage - which ever comes soonest.
No idea, regarding Mitsubishi's recommended schedule, but I imagine it'll be something like every 4 or 5 yrs.

Was there a problem that required the cam belt to be changed at 40k miles? It sounds a bit early, as my Mitsubishi (Galant Estate VR-4 2.5 V6) required changing at around 60K miles (100k Km).
If 40k miles was the interval, then the next one should be done at 80k miles. One point is that on some Mitsubishi motors, the water pump (driven by the cam belt) and cam belt idlers should be replaced at the same time. This is because they are hard to get at, and often the new belt puts extra strain on them. This may not apply as your Carisma is probably a 4, not a V6, but it's worth checking.
