Hi all, i hope one of you can help me with this problem.
I have a fiat ducato motorhome 1990 2litre petrol.
I went to take it out tonight put in in reverse, pulled back a couple of yards, applied the brakes and the pedal went straight to the floor with no resitance.
Brake fluid was low but not low enough to have sucked in air. No visible/obvious leaks. When i press the brake pedal with the engine off, i can hear a sort of CHUFF as the pedal goes down. I dont know if thats normal or not. Assuming there are no leaks ( i'll have a proper look in the morning )could it be the master cylinder seals inverted? How can i check without taking it apart? is there a way to test it?
Any thoughts you have would be more than welcome.
Thanks for taking the time to read this

really need to remove master cylinder from servo, and check rear seal is not covered in fluid, chances are its as you mentioned but with rear seal leaking as well which would saturate servo.
This can occur without rear seal leaking,ie seals in cylinder are turning back on themselves giving no brakes..so thats the first place I would look/master/c

Steve if the servo is saturated with oil, what do i need to do to remedy the problem apart from replace the seals in the master cylinder.
Thanks

>>This can occur without rear seal leaking,
What I meant, was Master cylinder seals can go as I stated without fluid getting into servo.
best way to check it out is remove M/C from Servo and check it has no leak at rear ie point of entry to Servo,it cannot be seen untill you do,a point mentioned about replacing fluid.
thats pointless untill you find reason for failure, and not going to correct the problem,so a waste of time IMO

first off dont push pedal to floor its an old vehicle and the seals can rip on the part of the cylinder wall they have never been to before
fill up with fresh fluid and starting at the furthest back wheel open the bleed valve or a pipe if valve seized and see if fluid coming through let it come through clean and do at all corners topping up as you go along, see if this brings pedal back.
you really also need to check all unions and definately take back drums off to check for leaks though It may take a while this way so get an assistant to pump pedal if you can but tell them to push it no further than 3 quarters
