7 Seater + dogs - Tony
I am considering buying a new E320 CDI Mersedes avontguard Estate. My main driving force for this choice are
1. My wife wants one
2. Must have 7 seats (5 of us + kids friends 2 dogs still a problem!)
3 Good performance diesel
4 My brother works for a Mercedes Dealer and is very encouraging

Obviously point 1 will require some effort to overcome. However point 4 is easy as he is obviously biased and doesn't provide a decent discount. The difficulty I am having is finding 7 seaters to compare it to.
Anyone help?

Tony

New Mercerdes+a host of small children+dogs? I take it this is a company not private purchase? The cars will be an interior disaster zone within six months. All joking apart, have you considered a LWB Landrover? It'll take the forthcoming punishment with ease.
Re: 7 Seater + dogs - Tony
I so agree with you regarding the Landy but I refer you to point 1 the wife hates landrovers. It is a company purchase of a sort but it is my (our) private company and wife 50% shareholder.

Under the thumb tony

ooh, buy one and tell what its like.

I have 1) & 2) and probably am moving to the UK. I wouldn`t want diesel though (sorry David).

Until now I have used a variety of 4WD off-roady things. Have you not considered something like that, or does it need ot ba a car type thing ?

Tony,

Paul is correct regarding the Mercs pastel coloured cloth interior being a likely disaster zone with young family. You have two options re this:

1
A dark coloured leather interior (extra expense)

2
Mercedes tailored seat covers. (less expense)

My own family are grown up now, so the light coloured cloth interior on my new shape C class is not such an issue. I did however feel obligled to use an aerosol tin of the Scotchguard product to spray the seating in order to help resist stains.

Complete with auto transmission its a great treat to own and drive.

I'm only jealous. Make you an offer for the MB in four years when my Saab 9000 has finally been destroyed by my three kids.
Re: 7 Seater + dogs - Tony
Thanks for the response. The model I have in mind is full leather (Kids attack with knife I have less kids).
Seriously though the real issue is depreciation what will shed the most value over 3 years and 36000 miles a 20 grand second hand one or the brand new one. I currently own a Volvo which I bought second hand and it lost 10000 in 3 years
Re: 7 Seater + dogs - ROBIN
Cars do that,you know,depreciate,I mean.
But for some reason that has always eluded me,most Mercs do it more slowly than anything else.
And the one you mention probably the slowest of all, they are not just merely unbuyable secondhand, you cant find one to buy at all unless its done a seven figure mileage.
At which point the engine will be about run in,the body will look even shabbier than when new, and,if you have kids and dogs, the interior will long have been buried, piece by piece,in some landfill site.
Thats why he said get a landie.
I can understand your wife not wanting one,she probably wants to drive it on the public roads.landies should not ,on any account be subjected to this, for they are both unsafe and a moving traffic obstruction.
Go get the Merc, and something illegal,in commercial quantities,to keep you awake whist you drive it.
Re: 7 Seater + dogs - Tony
Ok I ordered the beast (the Merc not the Landy) Black Leather for the kids to destroy!
HJ tells me there will be a new model within the year so I will probably be back soon wingeing about depreciation.

Thanks to everyone who responded
