Hi
What type of thread is used on Ford OHV (Kent, Valencia, Ensura-E, HCS) engines? Is it just an interference fit?
I remember a lecture on something similar which IIRC gave even stresses on each turn, although I'm not sure as those lectures weren't assessed :-)

These bolts are specials. In order to make them self-locking, there is a defined pitch difference between the thread in the rocker and the thread on the bolt. Although I'm no lover of Ford engines, this system seems to work surprisingly well - first seen on the Cologne V4 engine. (Project Cardinal I think it was, for a FWD power unit).

659FBE, thanks for that, I had it in the back of my head that it was something to do with pitch differences, it was the only way I could think such a tight thread could be made. Do you know what the type of thread is called?
Thanks,

Mike, I'm not aware that these bolts have any specific name - I rather doubt it.
