I'd be amazed if VW's warranty didn't contain the standard get-out clause for fitting any non-factory-approved items.
If the Oettinger unit is factory approved, then you could be OK, but check carefully. It would probably have to be fitted by an approved supplier too. Don't forget to tell your insurance company if you go ahead, or you could really be in trouble.

He's dead right, the warranty on the parts affected by the chip is invalidated. E.g. if your engine blows - no warranty, but if your window motor goes that should be covered.
Oettinger provide a "warranty match" when they chip your car, i.e. they vover the parts which are invalidated by the VW warranty.

Re: Insurance
I looked into chipping a car a few years back. My insurance said that my premium would not increase on the condition that I had my breaks fully tested by an independent mechanic.
I presume that this is not what insurance companies usually say!!!

Oettinger are the only VW APPROVED performance specialist in the same line as Alpine for BMW's and AMG for Merc's. Many factory specials from VW are, in fact, Oettinger models - e.g. Golf 16S (a rare French 16V MkI Golf) and the incredibly expensive 2Ltr MkII GTI from VW with mota from Oettinger on sale around 1989 methinks.
I would say it is possible the Oettinger chip could be covered by the warranty but only if done through a VAG dealer.
