Listening to radio 5 on way home tonight. There was item about new tax changes to company cars this April. It seems that a lot of drivers of larger engined cars are to be hammered with tax increases of the order of £1200 p.a for something like a 2.5 Mondeo.
This leads me to assume that the lease companies must be inundated with unwanted larger cars such as BMW's, Audis and the like.
Are auction prices and, therefore, retail prices for these cars falling and, if so, by how much ? Any bargains ?

There are going to be a lot of V6's coming soon as a result. My Omega 2.5 V6 Elite would have cost me an extra £2100 tax per year from April - if I'd kept it!
IMHO there will be a lot of BMW320D's and Mondeo 2.0 D's in 2/3 years time as these are the real winners as a result of the tax change. They don't quite get parity as there is a 3% uplift as they are Diesels - but only a minor uplift.
It amazes me that there are still company car drivers who are unaware of the change! Just to make matters worse - the Inland Revenue have just sent out notices of tax codes for 02/03 which get the car tax wrong - by a drastic underestimation! So the unwary will get a nice tax code and then a massive clawback come P60/Tax return time. Watch for sparks in the autumn!

FWIW, aren't the latest A4 TDIs excempt from the 3% levy because they meet the new Euro 4 emissions requirements?
Back on topic, I reckon this virtually spells the end for the company V6 (petrol) car. Diesel technology is where all the R&D money is for all the obvious reasons.

I 100% agree. I've bought a V6 and when I've worn it out/got bored with it in another 2 years or so will order an altra efficient oil burner as a company car. On the other hand a 330D is rather tempting .......

Despite the image, if I had the money I would definately have a 330D. No car under £30k appeals more I think :)

I had one on a 48hour test drive - magic, magic magic. The only thing that put me off was the price of all the extras that come as standard on my Omega!
