Tomorrow (Monday 4th), Channel 4, 8.00pm (20.00 hrs). Video code 3723.
Restoration of 1962 Bristol (40?).
I take the liberty of posting this having seen and enjoyed the Centurion (and missed the steam roller, blast it).

Thanks Tomo but clashing with this programme at 8.30 pm ( BBC 2 ) are the 'Top Gear Awards'.
A video a must if you must see the latter?
|
Not really!
|
Ok I agree with you !
I will watch both programmes just to see if 'Top Gear' turns out to be a load of tosh, which I suspect it will ?
|
|
i can just imagine what the top gear awards are like - fastest car, most expensive car, best outfit that VBH had on, nicest glasses worn (by the other annoying presenter). of course you wont have best used car, best new car under £10K, etc.

I should think they'll have fitted it with electronic ignition before the first adverts.
But I will be watching ..

I think fitting electronic ignition to the tank was inevitable; it might not be easy to get a magneto rewound at short notice these days. In any case, plenty of people use these neat little kits to get rid of the points on their classics. It would be only sensible for the Bristol - let's see!

Speaking of the necessity for the magneto replacement (I missed the Centurion episode), I was very surprised they didn't put a modern safety valve on the steam roller. Whilst in favour of preserving the original, within reason, anything which would stop the boiler bursting would be a necessity. They were having trouble in that the safety valve allowed the pressure to creep up.
An traction engine boiler burst in the US about 3 months ago. 2 or 3 killed.

I missed the Centurion and saw the steamroller. What they achieved in such a short time was spectacular (though how the work will hold up in the long term is open to speculation). But why the heck do they need to treat it like a programme for nobrains?

Martyn,
After I got this from David W, and it was indeed a fair comment, I wondered if it was just me, obviously not.
