What a night... - Mark (Brazil)

Since my e-mail still has its toes in the air, for those that mailed me -

My daughter was born at 1:16am this morning. Baby [Camilla Victoria] and Mother are both fine, although Mother is threatening dire things if she doesn`t get an extremely large breakfast pdq.

Old hat, I`m sure, to those of you already with kids, but omigod, what a night. They never said it was going to be like that.

Mark.

p.s virtual drinks all round, whatever you want.
Re: What a night... - john w.
We (and Sadie) are all very happy for you. Congratulations, we had been wondering...
Will we detect a mellowing in your postings?
Re: What a night... - JR
Congrats etc. Glad both are doing fine, How about you though...

Re: What a night... - Tom Shaw
Congratulations, Mark. The virtual larger went down a treat.

Re: What a night... - THe Growler
Congratulations on a beautiful daughter.
Re: What a night... - Rebecca
Congratulations to you both!

I expect we'll see an increase in (Brazil Time) middle of the night/crack of dawn postings from you as Camilla exercises her lungs. Have you been out to buy the scalextric set yet? (always a new father's priority)

A small tip - always volunteer to do the nappy changes for at least the next 2 years - it's really not that bad, especially if she's not formula fed in the beginning. This will win loads of brownie points from your wife, and admiration from your friends. More importantly, it makes it someone else's turn when there's sick to be cleaned up (the worst job ever)

Rebecca (mother of 2)

And I know some great parenting discussion forums...
Re: What a night... - Darcy Kitchin
Many congratulations, Mark. May your happiness last for aeons.

Rebecca is right about nappies; it's a scam I've used for years, except I wasn't bright enough to insist on disposables.

Mark,

You mean you resisted grabbing the laptop for hourly updates here?

Best wishes to all three of you. Remember what I said about looking after A, good start with that breakfast I guess.

Hope all the supportive visitors arrived.

Of course we do need to know her weight to see if you've produced a rugby player or ballet dancer.

Scalextric Rebecca? I bet Mark had two Dodge Ram Pickups in the garage ready, one pink and one blue of course.

Re: Mother and Baby - AFM
Congratulations Mark & Mrs. Mark. Nothing can prepare you for the experience.

My 4 year old has projectile-vomited gelatinous ribena coloured puke over the carpet shortly before developing all over zits; chicken pox. It seems I'm taking some annual leave. My offer to come to work with my son was politely declined.

Stock up on the Calpol. Life will never be the same.
Re: What a night... - Flat in Fifth
Mark,

Congratulations to all three, and remember what I said quite some time ago, in a day or two you will wonder how this small person manages to reduce two intelligent people to not far off gibbering rag dolls with eyes held open by matchsticks.

Re: What a night... - David Millar
Congratulations to all three.

Shouldn't think the site can help much with baby seat mounting advice for the Dodge Ram. Freelander probably a cinch!

Congratulations Mark and all the best to you, your lady wife and the newly formed Camilla!

Mark

Congratulations to all three of you.

Yes, one of life's unforgettable experiences being there at the birth. I can still vividly remember our daughter's birth, despite it being nearly 20 years ago. My wife says the same!

I should have recommended keeping at the end which does the shouting!

Best wishes

John
Re: What a night... - Paul Robinson
Congratulations! I look forward to your contributions on baby seats and other child related items.

Best wishes

Re: What a night... - Tim Allcott
Congrats! Now, seriously, if in 3 months time your still having problems with disturbed nights sleep, let me know. I may not be able to tell you the slackening and tightening order for cylinder head bolts, but I have (in a professional capacity) helped people with that issue! It's not on topic though, so tuck my email address away somewhere.
And yes, your absolutely right, nothing else in the world prepares you for that experience.....
Re: What a night... - Honest John
Congratulations to all of you. The first time you hold your new baby in your arms you won't believe the weight of responsibility.

Re: What a night... - Lee H
Congratulations to you all, very happy to hear everyone is doing well.

I think a decent breakfast is the least your good lady deserves!

Cheers,
Lee.

Oil and filter changes. - David W
There has ben much chat here lately about the need to simplify oil changes.

Crawling underneath with minimal access, a fiddly undertray to remove and all that mess. So some talk of the "liquivac" type devices.

Now I just wonder if they could be adapted to work in-situ for the nappy business?

We did have a chap posting here who could have "invented" the thing. Never know what you've lost 'till it's gone........

Re: Oil and filter changes. - KB.
Good wishes to you all. Some are said to be born with a silver spoon in their mouth. I would think on this occasion, given the nature of the site, it would be more appropriate to replace the spoon with a chrome vanadium drop forged 13mm ring spanner. Anyway, back to these brake lights...........

Kind Regards,

KB.

Re: Oil and filter changes. - PhiL P
Congratz! I'll be joining you in the fatherhood club sometime in the next month - feel free to pass on any tips for coping with a partner in labour...I'll need them!
Re: Mother and Baby - The Real Bogush
Congrats, and best wishes to the three of you.

BTW: "I should have recommended keeping at the end which does the shouting!"

Is that mother, or baby?
Re: Mother and Baby - John S
It was aimed at the moment of birth, but in retrospect probably applies to baby too!

John
Re: Mother and Baby - Brill
Muchas felicidades, Don Marco.

Yo tengo dos (de 6 y 8 años).

Es una alegría incesante, pero el tiempo pasa volando.

Disfrútalo.

Re: Mother and Baby - Julian Lindley
Mark,

Great news, my best wishes to you all.

My girls are 23 and 19 years old now, and they are always great fun to be with. (After you repel the admirers!)

I remember two bright blue eyes staring at me regularly at 2 am and refusing to close. It seems like yesterday.

Well done

Julian Lindley
Re: Mother and Baby - Woolly
Sorry, wrong site. Must have typed Mothercare by mistake.
Re: Mother and Baby - Cockle
Congrats, Mark.

You've now just experienced one of the, if not THE, greatest feelings of your life. Enjoy!

PS Good advice about the nappy changing, lots of brownie points.
Re: Mother and Baby - Mark (Brazil)
Thanks all. Rushing around at the moment, but today has been an experience. When life calms down a little, I`ll be back.

Mark.

p.s.

>>Sorry, wrong site. Must have typed Mothercare by mistake.

Don`t worry Woolly, we call that a "Freudian Mistake". Dick.
Re: Mother and Baby - Woolly
Mark, not a Freudian slip, I was searching for Motorcare.
Re: Mother and Baby - Randolph Lee
Congratulations to you all, very happy to hear everyone is doing well and what a lovely name you have chosen for her.... Happyness and good health to you all

Mark

*Many* congratulations to you both on Camilla Victoria's safe arrival - you must be absolutely delighted!

You will already have received a plethora of advice, but I can't resist a short extract from what my bride calls the World's Thinnest Book**, my book on how to bring up children "Treat your first born as a baby all his or her life, and any subsequent children as toddlers from the age of six months and teenagers from the age of two, and you won't go far wrong!"

Regards and renewed congratulations.

Ronnie
