Ford Escort 1997 (R). 2 Probs! - xero
Hi all,

I'm new here, and getting a but frustrated!!

I have an R reg Ford Escort Flight 1.6. The main problem is that the Dash Board lights don't always come on and upon further investigation i found out that this means that rear lights/Fog lights wont work either.

I had this problem a couple of months ago and apprently it is known problem on Escorts in that the contact for the stalk burns out. However replaced it with a new one and its doing it again!!

So before i go out and spend more money on a new one, i was wondering is anyone here that may know if it is anything else other that the contact in the stalk burning out.....

The second problem, may be something small i don't know.. but when the car is idle the rev's are really high, or when i've come off the motorway the rev's are really high. I don't know if this is a prob or not really!!

Thanks in advance!

or a cheap import copy one?good for moving the car on,not as good as a fomoco one.

Was replaced with one from a Newer Escort, so i spose that could be it, but just wanted to check before i go out and spend a lot more money a genuinely new one (Ford Quoted £90) rather than a cheaper one.

Its just that the other one i felt it was getting hot, before it went, this one does it intermittantly, so if i flick it on and of a couple of times it will work!!

Also if i turn the dial slowly that will also sometimes help!!

But i spose if it wasn't a genuinely new one then that could be the prob!!

Any ideas about the revving thing??

Sorry for being thick here, but what do you mean fomoco?
Ford Escort 1997 (R). 2 Probs! - bell boy
everything used to say fomoco on it (ford motor company)
the switch for the indicators packed up on my transit this year,i removed it and cleaned it with brake cleaner, letting all excess fluid run off and replaced, its worked perfectly since,(caveat emptor or words to that effect,i hated latin at school it was too foreign)

Don,t think everything had FoMoCo on it,just parts from Ford:)It was their trading name in the sixties and seventies.
High revs possibly caused by faulty coolant temp sensor.

Another question, how easy is it to take a Ford Escort (same car) stereo out?

Its just i bought a Fiesta (S Reg, 1.3 Encore) for my wife today, and it had a CD Player (Kenwood) in it, but she's not fussed on it, so i want it, so i thought take the stereo out of mine put it in hers and then i get the CD player!!
