I've done a spot of spray painting on one door of my car and the colour match is very good, but the new paint work has dried with a matt finish. Any recommendations on making it shiney!
Incidentally it is a 6 year old Peugeot 306, I found a paint code on the driver's door which Halford's found in their computer as Vert Patagonie. They mixed some up for me and the result was awful and cost £9.99.
I ordered from Peugeot and the supplied paint had the same name and was a good match, £7.00 and came with a spray can of laquer.

I think the grade of wet and dry you need is 1200 grade - finest you can get really. Use wrapped round a wooden block which has a flat surface, don't just use your fingers/hand, and as storme says, use plenty of water (soak the wet and dry first). When surface is flat enough the wet and dry "sticks" as you rub over the paint. Be careful not to go through the adjoining paint - rub only lightly, patience is a real virtue when doing this!
Then use Tcut, and finally polish - the resprayed area should be very shiny and perfectly blended!! By the way - after spraying, leave the paint to harden for 24 hours or so before sanding.

use plenty of water
Add a small amount of detergent to the water. This will act as a lubricant and make the fine wet & dry paper less agressive.

Thank you gentlemen, much appreciated. PS has anyone else found that Halford's mixed paints are a poor match ?

A "technician" (odd given he was two years below me at school) swore blind that my car wasn't Harvest Gold but Champagne Silver.
Didn't instill me with confidence but it forced me to get the job done properly so I suppose I should thank the lad.

Not found, but have heard many a person in various forums say that the match was never perfect.

I was disappointed with what I achieved with halfords touch-up but it was Met Silver which I am told [and now believe] is a real pain. There are several components in the paint and it seems vital to get just the same mix of these components as in the original or it ends up either too light or too dark.

AFAIK
Your correct Peugeot paint with laquer needs to be handled like a metallic finish.
If it is too cold the laquer can go cloudy. This time of year a fan heater is helpful to warm up panels prior to application.
The laquer doesn't respond too well to abrasives either.

Rub the sheets or peices of 1200 together berfore to take the sharpness off them and take care. Regards Peter

If the surface is not rough, just matt, then rubbing compound is a better option than wet and dry paper. This can be obtained from motor panel or paint suppliers or even some motor factors. It's available in different grades, for machine or hand application and they can ususally tell you which grade to use for the particular job. It's like a more abrasive t-cut.
