Hi all,
1998 Honda Civic 1.5i
I've got 2 split outer CV joints - first noticed a month or so ago.
I know I've left it too long and now I have knock on turning left and right.
My garage wants to pre-order the new outer joints. I just wanted to check on here that this is the right way to go - is it certain that the existing joints are terminal if they're knocking?

I take it by 'Split Outer CV Joints' you mean the boots have split.
If this is the case and you have driven the car for a couple of months then lubricant that lives inside the boot is all over the inside of your wheel-arches!
By running the CV joint without the oil will knacker the bearings really quickly - especially if debris gets in to act like grinding paste as well!!
I would go along with the garage for sure and let then order those new joints. If you had have got in earlier then a simple boot replacement might have been enough. The knocking means "Game Over" for the joint.
Regards,
Will.

Yep,
Thought so. I know I should have got this looked at sooner - lesson well learned!
Thanks for your help.
