transfer of cherished plate please help - avadot
bought a car 10th September with private plate.
previous seller has not informed dvla that he has sold the car.
sent v62 into dvla which they received 21/09
they have on 29/9 put the plate on retention for the previous owner.
dvla have advised I cannot drive the car as the tax disc is cancelled and I cant get new plates as I dont have V5.
Has this happened to anyone?
Can anyone help?
DVLA admit they shouldnt have issued new tax disc and amended mot to owner after receiving V62 but say that I cant drive the car until they have investigated.

Surely the first thing you should do is contact the seller.
Was the question of the cherished number discussed during the transaction? If not, I believe the previous owner does not have the right to claim it after the handover of the vehicle.
I think you could recourse this through the courts but not much help to you in your present urgent situation though.

have contacted the seller to ask what he is doing he told me he would ring me back as he couldnt talk was shopping?
spoke to police and DVLA both no help.
but thanks for the suggestion.....the courts would be good but DVLA have already admitted to making a mistake.
Cant understand how they could do the transfer with section 10 missing off the V5 in my posession and my signature at the bottom as the new keeper?

Sounds like DVLA have been totally incompetent. If the car was sold to you with the cherished plate, then it is yours. If they have transferred it, then they should automatically give you a new reg number and sort out the tax disc and MoT for you. Have you contacted your local licencing office (whaich these days, may not be that local to you anyway) ? - or try your MP ???
