The dash temp gauge is ecu controlled so uses nts2{the blue sensor on the thermostat housing} for both gauge and ecu functions chech pins for tightness and no corrosion on pins

thought so . its grey on mine .all connections clean .ive fitted a new sensor as the temp gauge isnt working but its still not working so i guess ill have to try a new dash gauge.
is it possible to check the gauge ? if i push the needle round to say half way as soon as i turn on the ignition it will go back to cold. id of thought if it was broke it wouldnt move at all ?

Hold the sender wire to the engine block - the gauge should shoot to max. If not it's the wiring/gauge itself.
What year of Escort is it?

There are 2 possible locations for the temp gauge sender unit on zetec engined escorts. There is a 2-pin sender that is screwed in almost vertically from the bottom of the plastic thermostat housing (usually has a metal quick release spring.)Alternatively the sender could be screwed into the underneath of the rubber top radiator hose.
