Have you tried to open the filler flap when the car is locked?
A lot of manufacturers include the filler cap on the central locking system.
Also, your car may have been a rental vehicle which may have been specified without a locking cap from new.

I would seriously doubt the likelihood of a HGT punto being used on a rental fleet - i'm sure fiat will have incorporated some kind of security system into the car.

Wouldn't be so sure about Fiat providing security, my new Panda has no lock on either the filler cap or the fuel flap.

hiya havent checked if it locks but no it was not a rental i baught it from new on saturday even registered it so first owner it doesnt lock so does it have an anti syphon divice fitted??

Check if the flap opens when the car is locked.
It wouldn't matter whether it had an "anti-syphon" device or not then.

flap opens will try to open the cap with out key is there a soloution to this?

Ask the supplying dealer what the score is. If it's not supposed to have security for the flap / cap then ask about the availability of a lockable cap and whether they're willing to discount the cost or throw one in as a freebie as you've just spent £XXXX with them....
